Gup Grading - Saturday 2 August 2008

Gradings are always a nervous event for all those taking part, it doesn’t matter what age or grade – nerves can be a problem!
The trick is learning how to control them, as this can affect your performance and spirit. If you make a mistake, it is not the end of the world. Just take a deep breath and collect your thoughts again, and regain your focus.
We know what you are all capable of; otherwise your instructors wouldn’t have put you in for your grading…

It was mentioned about showing spirit, and determination - it appeared to be lacking in quite a few of the groups today!
Even though it was a hot, muggy morning, this shouldn’t stop you from giving it your all. Don’t forget the seven tenets of Tang Soo Do, one of which is indomitable spirit.
Life is full of trials and tribulations, and chances of failure. However, differences start from the point where you stand up and try again, or simply give up. DTSD training incorporates this indomitable and constant determination to succeed.
“ A winner never quits, and a quitter never wins!”

Having said all of the above- one of the students grading was asked not to ki-hap, as he was drowning out everyone else- go Paul!

Special mention to the Brown belts who seemed to cope well with the combinations thrown at them. Everyone in this group put in a lot of effort which as you should know by now is what we like to see!
All the above comments are not intended as a criticism, but something for you to think about for your next grading.

A BIG Thank-you to all the Black Belts and Cho Dan Bo’s who assisted with this grading. Perhaps we don’t say it often enough, but we couldn’t do it without you!
