The competition started with judges and competitors alike lining up for the opening ceremony. It was noted that senior Black belts execute some amazing techniques whilst sparring, but ask them to form a straight line? Once this difficult task had been accomplished, a buzz of anticipation went round the hall, as the rules for the day were explained thoroughly by Master Ward .Sam Bum Nims Mark Hillier and Nic Fisher, were our “manikins” providing this years entertainment. (Master Ward particularly appreciated “the matrix moment”). Judges were then assigned to their designated rings and the battle for the trophies commenced.
It was great to see true sportsmanship, watching people shake hands, congratulating each other and sharing in each others disappointments, especially when the competition was so close and they just pipped their “rivals” to the last trophy!
Look at the photos to get a feel for the day. I’m sure you’ll agree everyone looked like they were enjoying themselves! (There were far too many photographs to put on just one website, I took over 1,500 shots, so I split the photos up into associations that participated, and sent copies of CD’s to the main contacts for each club.
To people wishing to enter next time - you won’t be disappointed. We pride ourselves on being fair and unbiased (I can vouch for that- I had to score 3 points against my own student in sparring!). To all our “old friends and rivals” we hope to see you again next year!
