DTSD Interclub Championships - 19 April 2008

The Interclub Championships were held at Patchway Sports Centre on Saturday 19th April 2008. Everyone seemed to agree that it was a well organised event, if only a little less hectic than usual. With the focus on safety, it was still lots of fun!

There weren’t as many entries as in previous years, mainly due to the holiday period being at the same time, but this didn’t stop the constant buzz in the background which gave a great atmosphere throughout the day, as everyone jostled to see how individuals from different clubs were doing, especially during the team sparring!

The highlight of the day, so I’m told, was the special demo by the Masters and Instructors, which was put on to give a small insight to what you can achieve, but also served as a reminder to everyone of their enthusiasm and commitment to you. The feed back was very positive. I believe most people want an encore at the Open Championships – are they mad?

The standard was very high throughout the competition, with some of the old hands being given a run for their money this time! It was good to see lots of new white belts participating, getting a feel for what it’s all about, and doing particularly well I might add! Our friends from Bournemouth took a few trophies home as well, so we’ll have to rectify that next time!

Generally despite their aches and pains nearly everyone walked away with the feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment at having tried their best – we can expect no more! Everyone who participated seemed to enjoy themselves. As always it’s a joy to watch some of the sparring, especially from the senior Black Belts.

In closing, I would like to say “A Big Thank-you” to our Masters, Instructors, Black Belts & Cho Dan Bo’s. I’m sure you will agree they did a fantastic job judging and making the day run smoothly, as well as enjoyable for all. Doing your best and having fun is whatb the day is all about, the trophy is a bonus!
