A mixed bunch of vigilantes from Bradley Stoke, Burnham, and Patchway Clubs, went to Hamburger Hill, on the outskirts off Bath, for a day of utter chaos...
On arrival we were kitted out with coveralls and masks, and given a comprehensive safety / game briefing before being taken deep into the forest to start our adventure. Game referees explained the objective of each game scenario, it was then up to the teams to build a strategy to outwit the opposition and win the game. We played out several different game scenario’s, going to different parts of the woodland area, which were marked off with boundaries.
Adrenaline was pumping as we surged towards the enemy on our first game and got splatted with paint in the goggles, on the backside, in the face, in the hair, basically anywhere that wasn’t covered up! We came up against some hardened paint-ballers, who had obviously been there before. Shame they didn’t play by the rules…..arguably a bit of cheating was going on.
Ambush! - One task was to protect our medic whilst guiding him along a treacherous path, towards our objective at the other end. The other teams objective was to ambush us – we were expendable, but one shot to our medic meant we lost the game.
Mission Impossible! - We had a suicide mission...to storm a heavily defended 100ft long, 2 story ramparted bridge. Our objective was to get one man to the centre of the bridge to blow it up, igniting the petrol bomb set up by the previous assault team.
Man Down! - One of our jets had been shot down and was in enemy hands. We had to get our pilot back to the plane, before the opposition could shoot him.
Bamboo Village! - One team had to defend the village from attack whilst the other tried various tactics to assault the huts and boats on the river, and to gain control.
Halfway through the day we stopped to fuel up with food provided by the company…with a varied menu of Lasagne, Chicken curry & rice, Sausages & chips, Chicken & chips, Fish & chips, Macaroni Cheese(and believe it or not, no Hamburgers!), with a small selection of deserts to follow.
Then it was back to the battle field for a few more games with different scenarios, that were even better than the first games if that was possible…or maybe it was that we were just getting better?
It really was a thrilling and unusual day out, and more importantly it was good, clean (well maybe not that clean) fun, and didn’t hurt that much! The Staff were really friendly and helpful, and made it a great day out! We left Battlefield weary and tired, and were more than ready for a tea and medals afterwards!
The medals of honour go to Nic Fisher: Rhys Davies; Matt Cox ; Master Chris White; Warren Parsons; Sabrina Moriarty; Gill Hampton; Shelly Butler; Tris Butler; Joanne Parsons; Dylan Merrit; Pete Hicks; Paul Stevens and Ryan Walsh. Matt Moriarty & Liz Moriarty were our reinforcements, arriving a little bit later on in the day, but they still managed to have an action packed afternoon.
Here’s to the next mad adventure.
